In this dream phase of Indian badminton we look across the profile and stats of one of the exciting band of shuttlers in the country right now,its none other than underrated Sai Praneeth. We are generally covered with news of Sindhu,Nehwal and Kidambi but we usually forget some players who may have not be able to win medal for the country but sure has lifted the country’s name in major tournaments through their performances.
Sai Praneeth,born in Hyderabad started playing badminton by observing the sport and was determined to be like Pullela Gopichand and finally he was the first shuttler to be trained by him in newly opened academy in 2005.Through his efforts and hardwork he managed to bag U-13 and U-16 National Champion title.
Sai broke into news when he beat then World no 2 Lee Chong Wei in All England Super Series 2016.In the same year,he bagged his first Career title Canada Open Grand Prix 2016.After that he had some fitness issues and skipped some championships and followed a 2 month strict fitness regime that proved to be a master stroke.In 2017,he managed to win his first Super Series title, Singapore Open by beating his counterapart Kidambi Srikanth. India’s Singles Coach Mulya Handoyo says “Sai is a player who is skilful in technique and he is happy that he is able to find success in several tour and I hope he can continue to challenge all the top players around the world”.
Talking about Pullela Gopichand,Sai says “Sir is so dedicated and Indian badminton is popular due to him and whenever I am low on confidence he boosts me everytime and encourages me to keep working on my skills”.
